- Advocating awareness of health-related legislation.
The California Medical Association Alliance is a nonprofit, volunteer organization of approximately 2,000 members. It is a federation made up of county organizations within California and part of the 25,000 member American Medical Association Alliance.
County Alliances provide leadership and resources for community health education and services in their respective communities. Cooperative efforts with other organizations and agencies promote community health seminars and educational programs within schools. Food and clothing drives for shelters and homeless programs are supported, as are other health related programs. Alliance funding programs offer informational materials on a variety of societal health problems.
The State Alliance serves as a resource network for the local Alliances. Leadership development programs are designed to help prepare members for their leadership roles within the Alliance as well as in positions within the community where they may be representing the Alliance. Fall Leadership Conference offers program and job-related training while offering time to exchange ideas, experiences, and strategies. The CMA-A Annual Session is the primary annual business meeting of the organization with representatives from all county and district Alliances throughout the state. The CMA-A Board of Trustees and committees also meets at an annual Winter Board to strengthen and coordinate ongoing efforts towards improving the health of California through education, community service and legislative advocacy.
Forming community coalitions and working with other groups that share similar goals is a main theme for this year.
