
Ruth Evans
Orange County nominates Ruth C. Evans to the California Medical Association
Alliance as our valued, honored and Dedicated Member of the Year.
Ruth is much loved and admired in our county and her accomplishments so many that we do not have enough time or space to share all of her contributions. She is and has been giving, committed and concerned about her family, her Alliance, her county, and her state.
Born of American parents in Chihuahua, Mexico, she graduated Cum Laude from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in Elementary Education. Later, as her five children grew, she took a M.A. at CSU Fullerton. Ruth has been married to an internist for many years, and has been active in her community, her church, her alliance. She has been active in medical education, civic, historical, political and patriotic groups.
In the CMAA Ruth served as Treasurer (1990-1991), served on the Finance Committee, Organization and Structure, as a Counselor for 2 years, Bylaws, Nominating Committee, and as a Spouse key Contact. In OCMAA she has served as everything from President on down. She was our Auxilian of the Year and served on the Centennial Committee.
In her community Ruth served on the Board of Education from 1969-1989, was a Commissioner for the City of Orange, Chairman CSU Fullerton Dept. of Educational Administration, Medical Faculty Wives of U.C. Irvine, Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Republican Women, Orange Community Historical Society. She additionally served on a multitude of Boards including being Chairman of the Heart Fund. She was part of the Governor’s State House Conference on Children and Youth, 1970 &1980.
She has been a leader and teacher in her church, a Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor, and a Missionary in Mexico. Ruth is a published author of books, pamphlets and articles. Two known to CMAA are “Parliamentary Procedure and Leadership Hints”, and “Write it Right”. She was also involved in Creating the first “Shaking Shocker” and “It Shouldn’t Hurt To Be Old”.
She has made a special contribution to the Intercultural Education Committee and was instrumental in establishing one of the first Consumer Education programs in California for Adult Mexican Women. This program included nutrition, comparative shopping, buying of quality goods, lessons on family health and medical matters as well as legal help. Ruth speaks Spanish fluently.
She has been honored in Who’s Who in California, 2000 Notable American Women, as Citizen of the Year, City of Orange, Outstanding School Board Member of Orange County, She received the William T. Glassell Award from the Orange Historical Society, and the Paul Harris Fellow from the Rotary. She was given the PTA Honorary Service Award and a Community Service Award.
We continue to be awed and inspired by Ruth C. Evans and her many gifts to us all. We hold ourselves lucky that she is one of our distinguished members.
